Quotation from 11/06/2026
Source: CEPEA/ESALQ

The kilo of chilled chicken is priced at R$ 8.10 in the CEPEA/ESALQ indicator of 11/06/2026. Chicken is the cheapest protein on the Brazilian table and the one the country exports the most. Its cycle is short — from chick to slaughter is about 45 days —, so the price reacts quickly to the cost of corn.

About this indicator

The indicator tracks the price paid to the producer per kilo of chicken. It is a short-cycle commodity: the interval between deciding to produce and having the animal ready is weeks to a few months, quite unlike cattle.

This makes the market more reactive. When margins tighten, the producer quickly cuts placements, and supply drops in a short time — the price corrects faster than in beef cattle farming.

What drives prices up and down

Corn and soybean meal

They make up the bulk of production costs. Expensive grain eats into margins and leads the producer to reduce placements, which later reduces supply.

Export

Brazil is one of the world's largest exporters of chicken meat and relevant in pork. The opening or closing of external markets shifts supply from the domestic market.

Sanitation

Disease outbreaks — avian flu, swine fever — close markets overnight and crash or spike prices depending on the affected country.

How to get exposure to chilled chicken as an investor

There is no simple way for individual investors to buy a 60-kg bag or an arroba and store it. The price on this page is for the physical market: trading there involves producers, cooperatives, trading companies, and industries.

Stocks of companies in the sector

The most direct and accessible route. Agribusiness-related companies listed on B3 have earnings sensitive to these price quotations — and you can track each one on the stocks page.

Fiagros and agricultural FIIs

Listed funds that finance the agricultural chain, usually via CRAs and receivables. Commodity prices affect the producer's ability to pay — and therefore the fund's credit risk. Check them out under real estate funds and Fiagros.

Futures contracts on B3

There are live cattle, corn, soybean, and coffee contracts traded on the exchange. This is the instrument used by those who need to lock in prices (producers and industry), not a long-term investment: it requires margin requirements, has an expiration date, and involves leverage.

Commodities do not pay dividends or interest: the return comes solely from price variation. Therefore, for most investors, it makes more sense to gain exposure to agribusiness through companies and funds — which generate cash — rather than trying to time the direction of price quotations.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of chilled chicken today?
The value at the top of this page is the latest collected quotation, with its date displayed alongside it. The reference is the CEPEA/ESALQ index, calculated from actual physical market transactions and published every business day, typically in the late afternoon.
Is the price on this page the same as what I pay at the market?
No. This is the price paid to the producer per kilo. Between the producer and the shelf, there is processing, packaging, freight, taxes, and the retailer's margin. The indicator is the raw material of the chain — it anticipates retail movement, but on a different scale.
What is CEPEA/ESALQ?
It is the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics at ESALQ/USP. It calculates daily reference prices for Brazilian agribusiness by consulting a panel of market agents. It serves as the benchmark reference used in contracts, financing, and on the B3 itself.
Can you invest in chilled chicken?
Buying and storing the physical product is not feasible for average investors. Practical exposure comes from shares of sector companies, Fiagros, agricultural receivable funds, or futures contracts on B3—each option carrying different risk profiles, as explained above.
